Abstract
The absence of resident student hostels in Kaduna State University, Kafanchan Campus (KASUKC) has spawned the unregulated development of privately owned off-campusaccommodations in the communities surrounding the university. This research adopts the casestudy survey methodology to determine user satisfaction levels of the occupants from selectedaccommodations around KASU KC. Purposeful sampling is used to select the off campusaccommodations as case studies, while convenience sampling is used to administer structuredquestionnaires to respondents. The Relative Satisfaction Index (RSI) based on BuildingPerformance Attributes (BPAs) was used to measure user satisfaction. Descriptive statisticswas used to analyze the data from questionnaires. The results indicated a mean RSI of 3.4 –designated as Indifferent. This implied that private developer's focus on commercialprofitability of the buildings without regard to standards required for user satisfaction. Thisresearch will hopefully add to the body of knowledge on user satisfaction in buildings, as well asprovide architects/developers of student hostels/accommodations with useful information onthe minimum standards for student housing.
