Abstract
The lean construction principles aim to ensure that there is waste reduction during construction process, thereby giving the client additional value for money. The question that still lies is the readiness of the client sector of the Nigerian Construction Industry to adopt lean construction principles. This study evaluates the readiness level of the client sector to adopt lean construction principles. The study adopted quantitative research approach and questionnaires were distributed to the respondents. The study considered tertiary institutions that are TETFUND beneficiary to be the respondents; the sample size of 67 was calculated from the total number of institutions that are beneficiaries of TETFUND. Out of the total number of questionnaires distributed, 45 were retrieved and were used for analysis. The readiness assessment was analyzed using the VERDICT readiness assessment model. The client sector of the Nigerian construction industry has only the people readiness to adopt lean construction principles but they do not have management, project/process and technology readiness to adopt lean construction principles. The study concludes that the client sector of the Nigerian construction industry is not ready to adopt lean construction principles.
